Bad Ass Motherfucker of the Day: Reb Brown

Reb Brown in "Strike Commando" -- Stay tuned till the end for an jaw dropping slow mo screeming an killing montage from the one and only über soldier Reb Brown:

Holy Crap: John Woo producing a 3D "The Killer" Hollywood remake!

One thing is obvious, John Woos "The Killer" from 1989 is sacred material. No one should touch this magnificent picture, take it to Hollywood and give it one of those cheep ass Nic Cage treatments. But, when Woo himself has his hands in the game, maybe it isn't going to be that bad.

Producer John Woo said: “While all my films are special to me, THE KILLER is truly one of my favorites. We are thrilled to reinvent it as an English-language film and know it’s in capable hands by the incredible visual style and tender emotion John H. Lee brings to all his films.”

here comes the press release:

Los Angeles, 31 January 2011: Essential Entertainment has joined Lion Rock Productions in its remake of THE KILLER in 3D, currently in pre-production, which will be directed by John H. Lee (A Moment to Remember, Saying Good-bye Oneday) and written by Josh Campbell. Jung Woo-Sung (Reign of Assassins, The Good, The Bad, The Weird) will star in this English language re-telling of John Woo’s iconic action masterpiece, with additional cast to be announced shortly. The film will be produced by Woo (Face/Off, Mission: Impossible II) and Terence Chang under their Lion Rock Productions banner. Essential Entertainment will be handling worldwide sales.

John Fremes, President of Worldwide Distribution at Essential Entertainment said: “John Woo’s THE KILLER is one of the most influential and classic action films of all-time. The 3D version will no doubt appeal to fans of the original as well as capture a new generation of enthusiasts.”

Set in present day, an elite Asian assassin risks everything to protect a beautiful singer that he unintentionally blinded, but can only do so with the help of an LAPD detective who is trying to catch him.

THE KILLER in 3D was brought into Essential Entertainment by attorney
Howard Frumes, Alexander, Nau, Lawrence, Frumes, & Labowitz, LLP.

Lion Rock Productions has also independently produced, in addition to its numerous studio films, RED CLIFF, the highest grossing film in China at the time of its release, as well as the upcoming martial arts swordplay drama REIGN OF ASSASSINS, released by The Weinstein Company.

In addition to THE KILLER in 3D, Essential Entertainment is handling the international sales on Barney’s Version, The Expatriate, A Good Old Fashioned Orgy, The Music Never Stopped, and Red Dog, which will have its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival— screening in competition as part of Generation 14plus.

"The next presenter is Ashton Kutchers Dad -- Bruce Willis!!"

Pic of the Day: Indiana Jones tramping on Rachel McAdams dress

The people in Berlin had the honour to welcome Harrison Ford + Rachel McAdams at the "Morning Glory"-Premiere Screening back on sunday. However big old Indy was a little badazzled by miss McAdams beauty and looking kinda confused as he was tramping on her shiny red dress.

Interestet in an VHS Vietnam Film Movie Memorial?

From Aritst Tim Doyle-

“I was asked to participate in an artshow that is also a fundraiser for a documentary about VHS art, and this is the piece I created for it. VHS will always hold a special place in my memory. I remember my family renting a VCR for birthdays and holidays from the local grocery store, along with some tapes. I always asked for the same tapes: Tron, Temple of Doom, Condorman, Black Hole, and maybe some Transformers cartoons. I used to work at a Suncoast Video when I was about 21, and I remember when DVD’s first came into the store. Here we were sitting in a store full of VHS tapes, with our little section of public-domain-title DVDs that were the first to market. The whole VHS medium was dead and it wouldn’t even know it for another 5 years or so. And now, even the rental culture is almost dead, and DVDs and Blue-ray will be gone in a few years in favor of streaming video. Strange times.

Recently I had to re-watch Full Metal Jacket and another Vietnam War movie for poster assignments (the second one is not yet released, fyi) and I got to thinking about how much of our understanding of war in this country is filtered through the for-profit lens of Hollywood. And frankly, I think it’s gross. Multi-million dollar star vehicles showing us all how awful war is, but still with a slight sense of humor and a moral at the end, and the star never comes home with a permanent brain injury or a lost limb. It’s these celluloid fantasies that help shape and sell the narrative of how we in America “understand” what’s going on in all those other countries we can’t spell properly. Many of us here don’t even personally know the name of a soldier serving now, much less one that has died in a past conflict.

Do I hate war movies? Heck no. They can be great fun, great social commentary, and depress the hell out of you. They can also exploit, lie, and whitewash. But no one should ever mistake them for what they are- complete fiction. Even the ‘true’ stories aren’t really true.

So all of the above was kicking around in my head when I created the above piece. I hope it offends the right people and the original intended message comes through. “

Japan: Wanna see how Godzilla looks from the inside?

"An Anatomical Guide to Monsters", is a book published back in 1967 which shows 30 awesome examples of vintage Japanese art, depicting the innards of such famous monsters as Godzilla. Despite the fact that my japanese isn't quite as good as I could read any of that descriptions, they must be as awesome as the pictures. But watch out, this stuff is so cool, you might as well go blind -- book is written by Shoji Otomo with illustrations by Shogo Endo.
